This blog for adults only? What the?!

Go figure! Apparently I'm harder core than I thought. The rating works by searching for random key words like "dead", "sex", etc. and must compare it to total word count or something. I assume it's something like this because if I just rate the recent posts, the blog is rated R (the Evil Dead post puts me over the edge there I think) and flags "sexy" as a bad word and if I rate the entire blog it doesn't. Anyway, click the image to rate your own blog (just change the address in the box). It's set to my blog now and will update every time you click it (because I used the method below) so my bad word counts are only going to go up. Woohoo!

Here's a compiled bad word list (from the few searches I did to see if the results would differ). Ironically this post upped my bad word counts so this list is invalid now (there's at least 4 bad words in the first paragraph alone!). In my defense all of those cocks were referring to roosters (oh wait there's another one):

* dead (33x)
* death (25x)
* zombie (14x)
* hurt (12x)
* kill (9x)
* sex (8x)
* hell (6x)
* corpse (4x)
* shit (3x)
* cock (3x)
* murder (2x)
* pain (2x)
* shoot (1x)
* dangerous (1x)

A Chickens! How to: display all blog posts

Like I said, I set it up so it would rate the entire blog including archives (not just the recent displayed posts). To display all of your posts (for Blogger) just type in your http address followed by:
/search?max-results=N
where "N" is the number of posts you want displayed. So mine might look like:
http://chickensinsaskatoon.blogspot.com/search?max-results=1000

This works for backing up your blog too, just type that in and save the webpage (this might take a while if your blog is big). You can find out how many posts you have from the Dashboard (F.Y.I. I have 339 as of today).

p.s. Hell! Damn! Fart!

Cute With Chickens! #4

By popular demand...gratuitous chinchilla photos! Now people are going to think that Chickens! espouses some sort of pro-chinchilla agenda! D'oh! Thanks to Lurker for the pics (keep 'em coming people!).
Quipu chewing on her volcanic block (mmmm, tasty pumice)
Quipu playing tug-of-war with her leash. Aww she thinks she's people.

Dr.Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

A brilliant online mini-series by Joss Whedon about the musical misadventures of Dr.Horrible (played by Neil Patrick Harris) and his dreams to be inducted into the Evil League of Evil, thwart his nemesis the egomaniacal superhero Captain Hammer (played by Nathan Fillion), and find love at the laundromat. Hi-larious! Here's the official website. There is also a related promo comic book about Captain Hammer from Dark Horse Comics called Be Like Me! (it's free). The show was conceived and produced by Joss during the heat of the writer's strike and released briefly on the internet in July. Here's an excerpt from Joss' Master Plan letter of explanation:

A LETTER FROM JOSS WHEDON

Dear Friends,

At last the time has come to reveal to you our Master Plan. BEWARE! Those with weak hearts should log off lest they be terrified by the twisted genius of our schemes! Also pregnant women and the elderly should consider reading only certain sentences. Do not mix with other blogs. Do not operate heavy machinery while reading this blog. You must be this tall to read. ‘Kay?

It is time for us to change the face of Show Business as we know it. You know the old adage, “It’s Show Business – not Show Friends”? Well now it’s Show Friends. We did that. To Show Business. To show Show Business we mean business. (Also, there are now other businesses like it.)

And from the FAQ in the aforementioned letter:

1) Why, Joss? Why? Why now, why free, why us?

Once upon a time, all the writers in the forest got very mad with the Forest Kings and declared a work-stoppage. The forest creatures were all sad; the mushrooms did not dance, the elderberries gave no juice for the festival wines, and the Teamsters were kinda pissed. (They were very polite about it, though.) During this work-stoppage, many writers tried to form partnerships for outside funding to create new work that circumvented the Forest King system.

Frustrated with the lack of movement on that front, I finally decided to do something very ambitious, very exciting, very mid-life-crisisy. Aided only by everyone I had worked with, was related to or had ever met, I single-handedly created this unique little epic. A supervillain musical, of which, as we all know, there are far too few.

The idea was to make it on the fly, on the cheap – but to make it. To turn out a really thrilling, professionalish piece of entertainment specifically for the internet. To show how much could be done with very little. To show the world there is another way. To give the public (and in particular you guys) something for all your support and patience. And to make a lot of silly jokes. Actually, that sentence probably should have come first.

Here's Act 1 Part 1:

Death Panda

Death Panda is part of the Japanese metal scene described in the sweet documentary Global Metal by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn. The sequel to his first metal documentary Metal: A Headbanger's Journey (which I haven't seen yet but I expect some people to have some sort of metal movie night soon). I was quite pleased with the film! Very interesting to get different viewpoints on metal music and how it is affecting and being affected by different cultures that are new to it. I especially liked the Israel based metal band called Orphaned Land. Also, it made me really proud of Sepultura and their forward thinking ways.

Anywho, one of the stand out funny things was Japan's take on some aspects of metal music (namely visual kei) and there was a clip of a cartoon called Death Panda.

According to this blog:

"The Death Panda is a shock manga by artist Waita Uziga about a giant demonic panda bear from hell. A more cutesy guitar playing anime character called Death Panda (loosely based on the manga) was created and aired as one of the segments of TV Tokyo Channel 12’s wacky TV show "Takeyama sensei?!"

The video clips show an angry guitar playing and singing panda who laments man’s extermination of animal species around the world. The speed metal theme was created by (ex-Megadeth guitarist and now Tokyo resident) Marty Friedman and was sung by members of the popular all girl idol group AKB48."

You know, sometimes things just make you go "What the heck!?" but are awesome.

p.s. If anyone knows the translation let me know (I wouldn't want a repeat of the Polish fiasco).

You Barfed Up Memories

See? This is what blogs are good for. We were reminiscing about the infamous train trip to Kingston from almost two years ago and I said I would post about it. You did such a good job talking about it that I really don't have too much to add (that's some nice blogging). Such warm fuzzies. Good times. Like that time you hit the referee with a whiskey bottle. Remember that? When you hit the referee? Yeah. Awww.

p.s. Whilst looking through Carrie's blog to find the link for her llama llama post for my April fool's day thing I came across this. I know you said you were thinking of reposting it but you're just too slow. Ha! I promise I'll change this post to reflect it if you do repost though.

Hope Is Was

A new and awesome contribution from the makers of Updog & Indy, it's HopeIsWas music. Sharing his talents with the world at large. Kudos! It takes guts to put something you care about, that tells something about you, out there. Outside interests are good!

Oooooo! Shiny!

Little CP and I decided to start a blog while she was supposed to be studying for her learners permit exam. Also, everyone else was doing it and my window for actually jumping off a roof because everyone else was doing it closed last weekend. I am such a bad influence.
