Why I stayed home today...

From Environment Canada's Official Weather Warnings:

City of Saskatoon
3:13 PM CST Saturday 24 January 2009
Wind chill warning for City of Saskatoon continued

Extreme wind chills tonight and Sunday morning.

This is a warning that extreme wind chill conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Cold Arctic air and winds of 20 to 30 km/h are combining to produce wind chills of minus 40 to minus 45 over much of southern and central Saskatchewan tonight and Sunday morning. Lighter winds over southwesternmost regions will keep wind chill values out of the extreme category. These extreme wind ch
ills will moderate Sunday afternoon.

At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 10 minutes.

Sweet llamas of the Bahamas! FYI click here for a handy guide to Canada's Wind Chill Index and it'll tell what's up with wind chill.

p.s. McShanty points to anyone who's nerdy enough to know who this is.

I know! Mr. Alps himself, the Ice Man. He made some great National Geographic articles.

Do I get extra points for saying his full name is Ötzi the Iceman?????

Ha! Good job nerds! You each get 1 million points! You can redeem them for a balloon ride across the Pacific with Paco the rabid monkey (he speaks 14 languages but all of them involve flinging poop). Hurray!

Disclaimer: Paco the rabid monkey is a composite of several poo-flinging monkeys and does not actually exist. The balloon does though. It says "death from above" and is roughly the size of my head. If it were full of helium it probably would float if it didn't have a hole in it. But it isn't and it does. As such, contest winners undertake the balloon ride at their own risk and What the?!...Chickens! assumes no responsibility for loss of life, sanity, or luggage. Balloon ride may be exchanged for a beer at someone's expense. Not mine though.

I'm liking the idea of a beer and it could be at your expense too. Yay! I'll redeem it on Friday at Alexander's!!! HAHAHAHAHA!

Hey I said NOT my expense! Paco will pay...as long as you don't mind it being covered in rabid monkey saliva.
